OUR PALESTINIAN AND ISRAELI COLLEAGUES

“The Obama administration appears more willing than previous US governments to actively engage the Israeli leadership to take steps towards peace.  We see more hopeful signs today than any time in the recent past.  But additional education and pressure is needed in order to ensure that Obama’s actions match his words.  Your participation is needed now more than ever!”

So begins a letter of support recently signed by more than 30 of Interfaith Peace-Builders’ closest friends and colleagues in Israel/Palestine. 

The list of signers includes Nobel Peace Prize nominees Jeff Halper and Ghassan Andoni; bereaved parents Bassam Aramin and Rami Elhanan; and those who feel the brunt of recent attacks such as Nomika Zion of Sderot and Raji Sourani of Gaza. 

This letter of support and solidarity from Palestinians and Israelis illustrates the importance of Interfaith Peace-Builders’ continuing efforts to educate North Americans and advocate for a just peace in Israel/Palestine.

Since 2001, more than 500 North Americans have traveled with IFPB to Israel/Palestine, and have returned to tell a story that humanizes all sides and contributes to de-escalating the violence. 

Ask yourself a few simple questions:

• Do you feel the need for a just peace in Israel/Palestine?

• Do you support the courageous Israeli and Palestinian peace-builders who struggle everyday to make the future safer for their families?

• Do you see the vital importance of US policy in pursuing peace between their communities?

• Do you want to help send more delegations to the region to ensure that a balanced picture is presented to the public, the media and policy circles?

INTERFAITH PEACE-BUILDERS MISSION STATEMENT

Interfaith Peace‐Builders fosters a network of informed and active individuals who understand the Israeli‐Palestinian conflict and the United States’ political, military, and economic role in it. To build and nurture such a network, we lead delegations of people from diverse backgrounds to Israel/Palestine. These delegations emphasize listening to and learning from those immersed in the reality of the conflict, and advancing the work of Israelis and Palestinians committed to nonviolent struggle and peace with justice. We seek to empower delegates to educate their local communities and the media, counter unfair or inaccurate stereotypes, and advocate for a more just US foreign policy that:

- Actively promotes civil, political and human rights

- Affirms political self‐determination for Palestinians and IsraeliS

- Fosters economic and environmental sustainability in the region

- And supports a diplomatic resolution to the conflict rather than one imposed by force of arms.
