ABOUT THIS WEBINAR:
This workshop will detail the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement. BDS strategies have proven effective in mobilizing support for Palestine and other progressive causes. It will also offer examples of how you can implement BDS tactics to pressure a wide range of corporations and state entities, complicit in oppression of Palestinians and exploitation of Palestinian land and resources, in your own communities. Sydney and Rick will share insights on BDS campaigns in North America, particularly in faith spaces, and discuss what is in store after BDS is passed.ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:
Sydney Levy is a Latino Jewish Palestine solidarity activist. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and is active with Jewish Voice for Peace. He has supported campus and church divestment efforts as well as other BDS initiatives. Sydney studied Jewish History at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and was a settler without even realizing he was one. He has co-led two delegations with IFPB.
Rick Ufford-Chase is a member of the Activist Council of the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship. He served as Moderator of the 216th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) from 2004 to 2006 as the church began it's journey of "phased, selective divestment" from companies that were doing business in a way that benefited from or contributed to Israel's occupation of Palestine. Rick is a founding member of the Community of Living Traditions, a multifaith community based at Stony Point Center in the Lower Hudson Valley of NY. Rick has participated in two delegations co-sponsored by IFPB and the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship.

Studies on how people form opinions have shown us that the words we choose are critically important. Statistically speaking, people are less responsive to facts and figures alone. This workshop will build on recent messaging research in order to help participants develop clear, effective and accessible messaging while remaining true to the movement's principles. We will discuss myth-busting, understanding diverse audiences, what messages move conversations forward and why. The workshop will examine movement messaging in general while also providing a close look at BDS messaging specifically.ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:
Nadya Tannous is Education & Advocacy Coordinator at IFPB. Nadya holds an MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies from the University of Oxford and a BA in Anthropology and Global Information and Social Enterprise Studies from UC Santa Cruz. She is a passionate community organizer with a focus on refugee rights, transitional justice, youth education, and inter-community empowerment movements. Nadya is a member of the Palestinian Youth Movement –USA Branch and was previously on staff with Friends of Sabeel North America. She was Coordinator and Co-Speaker on the 2017 US-National tour of No Child Behind Bars: Living Resistance from the US to Palestine.
Taher Herzallah is the Associate Director of Outreach & Grassroots Organizing for the American Muslims for Palestine. In this capacity, he acts as a liaison between campus activism groups on campuses across the country. He also coordinates AMP's grassroots organizing and helps facilitate national coalition building. Taher is one of the 'Irvine 11," a group of students who were arrested and prosecuted for expressing their rights of free speech and political dissent when they walked out of a speech given by Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren at UC Irvine in 2010.

The objective of this webinar is for participants to be able to recognize the ways in which Christian Zionism operates globally, oftentimes in support of racialized oppression. Joi and Taurean will specifically discuss: the entrance of Christian Zionist logic and language into the historical scaffolding of the Occupation; how Christian Zionist logic plays out in the USA; and how Christian Zionism and White supremacy are tethered together, inside and outside the USA.ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:
Rev. Joi R. Orr is a progressive minister, advocate, and Graduate Fellow at Emory University in the Graduate Division of Religion. Graduating in 2004, Joi received a B.A. in Philosophy and Comparative Religion from the University of Maryland College Park. In 2006, she earned the AmeriCorps Siegel Education Award for her service with the Sisters of the Good Shepherd where she practiced living simply so that others may simply live. Later, in 2010, she graduated from Howard University School of Divinity. As a doctoral student in Christian Ethics and Society, Joi is interested in the efficacy of faith based social justice organizations, social movement theory, and black Christian thought. She aspires to become seminary faculty and serve as a strategist for progressive faith based nonprofits. She currently serves on the board of Interfaith Peace-Builders.
Rev. Taurean J. Webb teaches African American Studies at DePaul University in Chicago. Self-identifying as a pastor, civic intellectual, pedagogue and abolitionist theologian, Webb has been involved in the MBL and Palestinian justice movements since 2013. With earned degrees from Morehouse College, Columbia University and Northwestern University, he is currently completing a PhD dissertation in religious thought and racial history, writing on the questions of ‘Blackness’ and ‘Palestinian-ness’ as racial formations. Outside of formal leadership in the education and civil society sectors, Webb is affiliated with Friends of Sabeel – North America; Coloring Mental Health Collective; and the Black4Palestine activist network.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Jacob Pace is the Communications Director at IFPB. Jake joined theorganization in 2007 after first traveling to the region with an IFPB delegation in 2003. He previously worked with Partners for Peace, the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights and the Resource Center for Nonviolence in Santa Cruz, California. Jake spent more than a year in Palestine/Israel between 2003 and 2005 working with the Applied Research Institute of Jerusalem in Bethlehem and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights in the Gaza Strip and has returned a number of times with IFPB delegations. His work experience has focused particularly on media advocacy and grassroots organizing.

Jennifer Bing directs the Palestine-Israel program for the American Friends Service Committee –Midwest . She has worked with AFSC since 1989, organizing dozens of speaking tours, conferences, educational workshops, protests, delegations, and public events. She is a founder and lead organizer of the No Way to Treat a Child campaign.
Beth Miller is the US Advocacy Officer at Defense for Children International - Palestine where she supports and develops advocacy initiatives and community outreach. She coordinates the No Way to Treat a Child campaign, organizing grassroots support and regularly speaking on issues involving Palestinian child detention by the Israeli military.

Yasmin Hamidi has served as communications director for the Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU) for the past three years. In this role, she oversees the IMEU's efforts to educate Americans about Palestine and Palestinians through mainstream media coverage and helps lead integrated campaigns. She previously served as the IMEU's development director for three years. Before joining the IMEU, Yasmin was an account director at Fenton, a leading social change communications agency, and served in a communications capacity at two other nonprofit organizations. She holds a B.A. in international relations and journalism from George Washington University. She works out of the IMEU's NYC office.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:
Rochelle Gause is a mother with 15 years experience as a community organizer and project coordinator. She currently works as National Organizer for Friends of Sabeel North America. Rochelle has worked as Project Manager for Art Forces, a mural-based social change organization based in San Francisco. She co-founded the Olympia Rafah Sister City Project after her friend, Rachel Corrie, was killed by the Israeli military in 2003 while protecting a Palestinian home facing demolition. In 2010 Rochelle co-founded Olympia BDS, which led to Olympia Food Co-op becoming the first U.S. grocery store to boycott Israeli goods.
Mohamed Shehk is the National Media and Communications Director of Critical Resistance, an organization dedicated to building an international movement to abolish the prison industrial complex. A member of the Stop Urban Shield Coalition, he has worked and organized around issues of policing and surveillance, discriminatory post-9/11 policies and practices that target Arab and Muslim communities, and activism around Palestine. Mohamed was also a member of IFPB's 2016 Indigenous and People of Color Delegation to Palestine.

Cecilie graduated from Brown University with a BA in Religious Studies with special honors for her work in Modern Culture and Media. She is the editor of Muzzlewatch, JVP's acclaimed blog documenting efforts to silence open debate about Israel-Palestine policy, and leads JVP's fundraising, media and online outreach efforts.

Maia Carter Hallward is associate professor of political science and international affairs at Kennesaw State University. She is the author of “Transnational Activism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict", “Struggling for a Just Peace: Israeli and Palestinian Activism in the Second Intifada”, and co-editor of "Nonviolent Resistance in the Second Intifada: Activism and Advocacy". Maia is a Lead Editor of the Journal of Peacebuilding and Development and her articles have appeared the Journal of Peace Research, International Political Sociology, and Critical Middle Eastern Politics. She worked for four years in the Middle East, including teaching and research positions in Jerusalem, Ramallah, and Amman; and has co-led several Interfaith Peace-Builders delegations.

How can the US-based Palestine Solidarity Movement respond to this moment? What is the imperitive for action and what does effective solidarity look like?
ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:
Kristian Davis Bailey is a Detroit-based freelance writer and activist. He has been deeply involved in initiatives for Black-Palestinian solidarity, including the Black for Palestine statement and recent Black-Palestinian Solidarity video project. Kristian graduated from Stanford University in 2014 with a degree in Comparative Studies in Race & Ethnicity. While at Stanford, he was active with Students for Justice in Palestine locally, regionally, and nationally. Since graduating, his journalism and organizing have focused on Black liberation, Black-Palestinian solidarity, and transnational solidarity between social movements more broadly. His writing has appeared on Ebony.com, Colorlines, and Truth-Out.
Colleen Kelly is a community organizer and activist raised in St. Louis. As a member of the St. Louis Palestine Solidarity Committee, she has worked closely in solidarity with organizations in Ferguson, Missouri, since the killing of Michael Brown last summer. Colleen is part of the Catholic Worker community, and co-runs a house of hospitality for homeless women and children in North St. Louis. She has organized with Occupy St. Louis, Midwest Rising, People’s Settlement, Camp Hope, and the Occupation Project; and has worked in conjunction with various national organizations, such as Voices for Creative Nonviolence, United for Peace and Justice, and the American Friends Service Committee. She is a speaker and trainer on anti-oppression work, anti-militarization and nonviolence. She joined an IFPB delegation in 2011 and co-lead the 2014 Olive Harvest Delegation.
Sandra Tamari is a Palestinian-American activist and organizer. As a member of the St. Louis Palestine Solidarity Committee, she has worked closely in solidarity with organizations in Ferguson, Missouri, since the killing of Michael Brown last summer. Sandra also co-chairs the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and has worked nationally on initiatives for Black-Palestinian solidarity. A member of the St. Louis Religious Society of Friends, in May 2012 she was jailed and denied entry into Palestine by Israel because of her work to encourage U.S. churches to divest from the occupation. She holds a Master’s degree in Arab Studies from Georgetown University.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Margaret DeReus is executive director of the Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU). She joined the organization just after its founding in 2005. Prior to joining the IMEU, she worked at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) where she managed democratic development projects throughout the Middle East. Margaret helped to organize the international observer mission that monitored the first Palestinian Authority elections in 1996, in partnership with former President Jimmy Carter. Margaret holds a Master’s in Arab Studies from Georgetown University’s Center for Contemporary Arab Studies.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:
Jacob Pace is the Education and Advocacy Coordinator at IFPB. Jake joined the organization in 2007 after first traveling to the region with an IFPB delegation in 2003. He previously worked with Partners for Peace, the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and the Resource Center for Nonviolence in Santa Cruz, California. He lived Israel/Palestine between 2003 and 2005, working with the Applied Research Institute of Jerusalem in Bethlehem and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights in the Gaza Strip. His work experience has focused particularly on media advocacy and grassroots organizing. He has co-led four IFPB delegations and staffs the San Francisco office.
Michael Brown is Director of Opinion and Analysis at the Institute for Middle East Understanding. Michael is the former executive director of Partners for Peace and Washington correspondent for Middle East International. In 2006-2007 he was a fellow at the Palestine Center. He worked off and on in the Gaza Strip between 1993 and 2000 for the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights. His op-eds on Israel/Palestine have been published in the International Herald Tribune, The News & Observer, and The San Diego Union Tribune as well as online at TheNation.com. A former IFPB board member, Michael continues to work today on the media and Palestine. Michael led a general IFPB delegation in 2008 and an IFPB delegation to the Gaza Strip in 2012.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:
Jennifer Bing is the Middle East Program Director in the Chicago office of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). Jennifer began her activism on Palestine and Israel in 1982, and during the early years of the first Intifada she was a teacher at the Friends Boys School in Ramallah and a human rights researcher at Save the Children. Jennifer’s research on the first Intifada and its impact on Palestinian children was published in a three volume human rights report printed by Radda Barnen (Swedish Save the Children) in January, 1990. She has also worked closely with IFPB on a number of delegations, co-leading the 2008 Olive Harvest Delegation.
Mike Coogan is Legislative Coordinator and Director of Development at the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation. Mike joined the US Campaign after spending eight months volunteering as an English and photography teacher in Palestinian refugee camps. He holds a undergraduate degree in Political Science from University of Portland, in Oregon. Mike has been with the US Campaign since 2009, starting out as an intern, and now working full-time on a range of issues.

Sydney has worked for over 15 years in nonprofits advocating for LGBT human rights, organizing for media justice, and assisting in the preparation of death row appeals. He is the son of Egyptian Jews who immigrated to Venezuela, where he was born. Sydney lived in Jerusalem for seven years, where he received his Masters degree in Jewish History from the Hebrew University. Sydney has been working with JVP - first as a volunteer, then as a staff member - since 2000.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Sasha Gelzin is the Communications Coordinator at IFPB. She spearheaded the fundraising work within the NSJP fundraising committee and collectively they raised more than $40,000 to fund two national conferences. Sasha has been active within the Palestine solidarity movement for more than six years. She is an active member of the US Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (USACBI) Organizing Committee. She has also organized with Students for Justice in Palestine - on a local and national level as a member of the NSJP Steering Committee. Sasha brings her experience as a former media coordinator in Palestine to IFPB.

In May 2012, she was jailed and denied entry into Palestine by Israel because of her work to encourage U.S. churches to divest from the occupation.

She is a Jewish-American Columbia graduate, former-Fulbright scholar, the granddaughter of Holocaust refugees, and an award-winning lecturer, author, and activist for Palestinian human rights. Anna has appeared on television more than 100 times (including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) and lectured at more than 500 universities, schools, churches, mosques, synagogues, and policy institutes around the world with her acclaimed presentation, "Life in Occupied Palestine: Eyewitness Stories & Photos," and her full-color book, Witness in Palestine. Baltzer is co-founder of the St Louis Palestine Solidarity Committee and last month, she received the Inspiration for Hope Award from the Middle East Committee of the American Friends Service Committee.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Noushin Framke is a writer who lives in New York City and is involved in advocacy and education at the grassroots level on the Israel/Palestine conflict. As a Presbyterian Ruling Elder, Noushin serves on ACREC, the Advocacy Committee for Racial Ethnic Concerns of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is a liaison from that committee to MRTI – the Committee on Mission Responsibility Through Investment. She also serves as the Communications Chair for the Israel/Palestine Mission Network of the Presbyterian Church (USA). She is part of the team of writers and editors who produced Steadfast Hope and Zionism Unsettled for the IPMN and did the videography for the DVDs. Noushin holds degrees in English and Philosophy from The George Washington University.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS: Samer Badawi is a Communications Manager at the Institute for Middle East Understanding. Previously, he served as a director with the Welfare Association, as executive director of United Palestinian Appeal, and as Washington, DC correspondent for Middle East International. Zoe Zenowich is a Senior Communications Associate for the Institute for Middle East Understanding, where her primary focus is to provide media guidance and resources to students on university campuses across the country. In this role, Zoe has assisted with everything from drafting op-eds and consulting on campaign messaging to holding media trainings and workshops. Prior to working at the IMEU, Zoe interned at both the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law and The Economist; she has also worked as a freelance multi-media journalist and project consultant for Legal Aid Jordan.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Dalit Baum, Ph.D., is the regional program coordinator of the Middle East program of AFSC - the American Friends Service Committee- and with the Economic Activism for Palestine Program of Global Exchange, which supports corporate accountability campaigns. She is also a co-founder of Who Profits from the Occupation, an activist research initiative of the Coalition of Women for Peace in Israel. Dalit is a feminist scholar and teacher in Israel, who has been teaching about militarism and about the global economy from a feminist perspective in Israeli universities. As a feminist/ queer activist, she has been active with various groups in the Israeli anti-occupation and democratization movement, including Black Laundry, Boycott from Within, Zochrot, Anarchists against the Wall and Women in Black.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Kate Gould is the Legislative Associate for Middle East Policy for the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), a Quaker lobby in the public interest fielding the largest team of peace lobbyists in Washington, DC. She is one of only a handful of registered lobbyists working to prevent war with Iran, and also lobbies on Israeli/Palestinian peace. Kate also represents FCNL on the board of Churches for Middle East Peace and writes on foreign policy for The Huffington Post. ABOUT THIS TRAINING: This workshop will detail the burgeoning Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement and answer the questions: ‘What is BDS?”and “Why BDS?” It will also offer successful strategies for organizing BDS campaigns and focus on specific targets that are currently the aim of campaigns in North America and internationally.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Dalit Baum, Ph.D., is the regional program coordinator of the Middle East program of AFSC - the American Friends Service Committee- and with the Economic Activism for Palestine Program of Global Exchange, which supports corporate accountability campaigns. She is also a co-founder of Who Profits from the Occupation, an activist research initiative of the Coalition of Women for Peace in Israel. Dalit is a feminist scholar and teacher in Israel, who has been teaching about militarism and about the global economy from a feminist perspective in Israeli universities. As a feminist/ queer activist, she has been active with various groups in the Israeli anti-occupation and democratization movement, including Black Laundry, Boycott from Within, Zochrot, Anarchists against the Wall and Women in Black.

Information will include how to work with your congressional representatives in Washington; how to work for policy change locally; and how to work with others to build collective power for real policy change.ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Mike Coogan is Legislative Coordinator and Manager of Finance & Administration at the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation. He has been with the US Campaign since 2009, starting out as an intern, and now working full-time on a range of issues. Before joining the US Campaign, Mike spent eight months volunteering as an English and photography teacher in Palestinian refugee camps. He holds a undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Portland in Oregon.

ABOUT THIS TRAINING: This workshop will focus on building skills for advocating with your local media, including: pitching your story; publishing Op/Eds and Letters to the Editor; pursuing Editorial Board Meetings; and building relationships with your local media outlets. Our discussion will also seek to answer “what is media?” and “how are we not only consumers, but also producers of media?”; and focus in on structural dynamics in the mainstream media.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: You know Jacob Pace as the Communications and Grants Coordinator at IFPB. Jake joined the organization in 2007 after first traveling to the region with an IFPB delegation in 2003. He previously worked with Partners for Peace, the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and the Resource Center for Nonviolence in Santa Cruz, California. He spent more than a year in Israel/Palestine between 2003 and 2005 working with the Applied Research Institute of Jerusalem in Bethlehem and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights in the Gaza Strip. His work experience has focused particularly on media advocacy and grassroots organizing. He co-led IFPB delegations in 2008 and 2010 and staffs the San Francisco office.

ABOUT THIS TRAINING: This workshop will focus on delivering powerful presentations on your experience in Israel/Palestine. Anna will bring her expertise in conducting thousands of presentations to the table and share techniques and strategies for successfully sharing the findings of your delegation and the importance of the issue for audiences in your community. As an IFPB delegate herself, Anna will also draw on her own delegation experience to highlight the stories of the Palestinians and Israelis you met on the ground.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Anna Baltzer is National Organizer at the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation. She is a Jewish-American Columbia graduate, former-Fulbright scholar, the granddaughter of Holocaust refugees, and an award-winning lecturer, author, and activist for Palestinian human rights. Anna has appeared on television more than 100 times (including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) and lectured at more than 500 universities, schools, churches, mosques, synagogues, and policy institutes around the world with her acclaimed presentation, "Life in Occupied Palestine: Eyewitness Stories & Photos," and her full-color book, Witness in Palestine. Baltzer is co-founder of the St Louis Palestine Solidarity Committee and last month, she received the Inspiration for Hope Award from the Middle East Committee of the American Friends Service Committee.

Sydney has worked for over 15 years in nonprofits advocating for LGBT human rights, organizing for media justice, and assisting in the preparation of death row appeals. He is the son of Egyptian Jews who immigrated to Venezuela, where he was born. Sydney lived in Jerusalem for seven years, where he received his Masters degree in Jewish History from the Hebrew University. Sydney has been working with JVP - first as a volunteer, then as a staff member - since 2000.
